The monthly note

Family Office Primer publishes short research notes for the people who run single family offices: principals, chief executives, investment and finance leads, and the advisers who work with them.

Each note takes one question a family office actually faces, answers it in the first paragraph, and then shows the evidence. We work from primary sources: the annual family office surveys from UBS, Campden Wealth, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, Citi and Deloitte, the secondary market reviews from Jefferies and Evercore, the compensation benchmarks from Morgan Stanley and KPMG, and the regulators’ own documents. Every figure is dated and linked. Where the evidence is thin or contested, we say so.

Notes are 600 to 900 words. They are written to be read in five minutes and kept for reference, with a table where the data suits one and a short list of sources at the end.

Who is behind it

Family Office Primer was founded in 2026 by Alex Branton. Alex has advised institutional investors at Cambridge Associates, run an emerging markets asset manager as general partner, and is Chief Investment Officer of Nodem Capital, a London-based lender authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. Nodem Capital publishes this site and pays for it.

That relationship is disclosed here, in the footer of every page and at the foot of any note that touches the publisher’s own field. Those notes are the exception, not the rule: of the first seventy notes, two discuss portfolio lending and both carry Alex’s byline and a disclosure. The rest have nothing to sell and name providers only as sources or examples. Our editorial standards set out how we keep it that way.
